About The Course • • • Physical science course based on NGSS practices Meets A-G college requirements Use of C-E-R strategies Common Core & College Ready Hands-On Experiences Lab Exercises & Reports • • Inquiry based lab design Scientific reading of various texts.
What will your child learn? • • About matter and how it changes. Atomic Structure, Bonding, Nomenclature, Nuclear Chemistry, Mole concept, and Reactions Ability to experiment, model using math, and write like a scientist. Creating scientific explanations by supporting Claims with Evidence and Reasoning.
What will happen if they do not understand it? Test Corrections • The point is to reflect on material learned. • Can increase grade through quality explanations Priority Period • Time to get help or get caught up • Required attendance for the week if a student has a D, F, or more than three missing assignments on the previous Friday • Parents will be notified on Friday’s through e-mail Peer Tutoring • Tuesday - Thursday • 2: 35 – 4: 00 pm (late bus available) • To be held in ADM. 1 Teacher Tutoring Tuesday and Thursday 1 st lunch and afterschool form 2: 30 -3: 15
What will happen if they do not understand it? Periodic Progress Reports • Progress reports sent Friday Parent/Teacher/Counselor Conference • When needed.
What can parents do to support their child’s education? Check Unit outline • Unit outlines of assignments sent at beginning of unit Check Interactive Notebook • Check for stamps. Blue are great. Red means late. Check Aeries Routinely. • Gradebook is always up to date within 24 hours. • 24 -48 hour feedback • Check the comment section for feedback on assignments and attendance. Check Attendance • They must be in school & ready to learn • Tardies and absences can negatively impact the grade in the course. Contact Teacher • Students should make the first contact to try to solve the issue on their own. • Encourage your child to communicate with me and we often work out a solution. • Parents are more than welcome to contact me anytime. Email is fastest.
