Basic Plot (Act 1) • After a street fight in Verona, the Capulets and

Basic Plot (Act 1) • After a street fight in Verona, the Capulets and Montagues are threatened to be killed, if it happens again by Prince Escalus. • Romeo tells Benvolio about how he loves Rosaline and the two plan to go to the Capulet party where she will be. • Meanwhile, Paris declares he plans to marry Juliet and Lord Capulet invites him to the party. Lady Capulet tells Juliet about Paris proposing and Juliet considers him to make her parents happy. • The Capulet welcomes a masked Romeo into the party, where he sees Juliet for the first time and falls in love. Tybalt sees Romeo and is furious. When the party ends, Romeo and Juliet just discover that they belong to different houses.

Basic Plot (Act 2) • Romeo is so in love with Juliet that he sneaks into the Capulet garden to see her, while Mercutio and Benvolio look for him. In the garden, Romeo hears of Juliet’s love for him and they express the desire to get married. • Romeo asks Friar Lawrence to marry them and he agrees. The Nurse sees Romeo later and Romeo tells her to tell Juliet to meet him et Friar Lawrence’s cell. Juliet learns of this and agrees.

Basic Plot (Act 3) • Mercutio, Tybalt, and Romeo run into Tybalt on the street and he provokes them to fight. Romeo refuses, but Mercutio takes his place. • Mercutio is killed in the fight, and Romeo kills Tybalt in revenge. Romeo is banished from Verona as a punishment. Juliet finds out he has been banished and the Nurse brings Romeo to her room so they can spend a final night together. • Romeo agrees to Friar Lawrence’s idea to go to Juliet and leave for Mantua the next morning. Paris asks again about marrying Juliet and Lord Capulet says they will marry in 3 days. Lady Capulet tells Juliet about the marriage and Juliet gets more annoyed when the Nurse says Paris is better than Romeo anyway. Juliet runs to Friar Lawrence for help.

He gives a potion that will make her appear dead on the wedding day, when she will actually be sleeping. • Juliet returns to Lord Capulet and pretends to have learned obedience. He is so excited about this and move the wedding to the next day. • Juliet drinks the potion before she goes to bad that night. When the Nurse goes to wake up Juliet, she find Juliet “dead”. The Capulet's arrange the funeral.

Basic Plot (Act 5) • Balthasar tells Romeo of Juliet’s “death” and Romeo goes to Verona and buys potion to join her death. • The letter from Friar Lawrence had never reached Romeo sees Paris at Juliet’s tomb and fights him, Paris dying in the end. • Romeo then takes the potion beside Juliet then wakes up and kills herself after seeing Romeo dead. Both families are told about the death by Paris’ page, and declare their hostility is at an end.
