Romeo and Juliet Act II

Act II, Scene 1: The Capulet’s Orchard Wall l Romeo decides to go back to find Juliet after he leaves the party. l Romeo overhears his friends making fun of his lovesick condition. l However, Mercutio and Benvolio think Romeo is still in love with Rosaline since they know nothing of his meeting Juliet.

Act II, Scene 2: Juliet’s Balcony l Romeo is hiding under Juliet’s balcony, hoping to see her again. l Juliet comes out on her balcony and they profess their love for one another despite family differences. l Just before dawn, Romeo leaves to make plans for their wedding the next day.

Act II, Scene 3: The Monastery l Romeo tells Friar Laurence that he loves Juliet. l Friar Laurence warns Romeo about moving too quickly, then approves Romeo’s wish to marry Juliet. l Friar Laurence hopes the marriage will end the feud between the families.

Act II, Scene 4: The Street in Verona l Benvolio and Mercutio tease Romeo, who is in a much better mood. l The nurse tries to find out if Romeo is an honorable gentleman. l Romeo tells the Nurse to have Juliet come to Friar Laurence’s cell at the monastery to be married.

Act II, Scene 5: Capulet’s Orchard l The Nurse babbles on about Romeo, holding Juliet in suspense about Romeo’s plans. l The Nurse finally gets to the point: Juliet should go to Friar Laurence’s cell to be married to Romeo.

Act II, Scene 6: The Monastery l Friar Laurence once more tries to caution Romeo about the dangers of he and Juliet’s romance (their families are enemies and they have just met). l When Juliet arrives, she and Romeo pledge their love and prepare to be secretly married.
