Roman Mosaics • The Romans introduced exquisite mosaics in their domestic architecture and in the places of worship. They were often very complicated and detailed, often depicting daily lives and occasionally historical or mythological scenes.

Roman Mosaic Directions • You will be assigned a topic over the Roman Empire STEP #1 -- You are to research and explain your topic thoroughly in no more than a 1 -page essay – Must be handwritten and at least 1 page long (no more than a page and a half)

STEP #2 -- Create a picture mosaic that portrays your topic – Simple is best – Draw design with pencil first – Drawing will need to be large You will be presenting your mosaic to the class next Tuesday and/or Wednesday --EVERYONE’S MOSAIC IS DUE ON WEDENSDAY 10/7 AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS!!

Dos and Don’ts of this project • DOs… – – – Only use glue sticks Make picture large and neat Make your mosaic colorful ASK QUESTIONS… Take this project seriously as it is an assessment grade! • DON’Ts… – Use runny glue – Use scissors -- all mosaic chips must be torn by hand – Don’t waste construction paper – Make the mosaic too small or have too many details in your picture – Forget to have your one page summary on the back of paper
