History Ancient Roman art spans almost 1, 000 years and can be considered by many as very broad topic. The first Roman art dates back to 509 B. C. E. and ends around 330 C. E or even longer if you include Byzantine art, which is very similar. Roman art also spanned among three different continents from Europe into Africa and Asia. Roman art encloses a wide range of media including marble, painting, mosaic, gems, silver and bronze work, and terracottas.

History The city of Rome was a melting pot much like the U. S. is today and therefore it is common to see Greek and Egyptian influences within its art. Rome adapted much of Greece’s cultural and artistic heritage. This is why they often have marble versions of lost Greek bronzes. The Romans did not believe, as we do today, that a copy of an artwork was any less valuable than the original artwork.
