Rocks… what are the different types and how are they formed?
EXTRUSIVE igneous rocks are from cooled lava on the surface of the earth. Igneous rocks form from molten rock cooling and hardening on OR below the surface of the Earth. INTRUSIVE igneous rocks form from magma cooling slowing inside the earth.
These intrusive igneous rocks have larger crystals because they cooled very slowly inside the earth.
These extrusive igneous rocks cooled so quickly on the earth's surface they have very small or no crystals at all.
1 2 Rocks that when particles of Howform are they formed? rock or sediments settle and harden together.
Metamorphic Rocks
Rocks that are formed when existing rocks are heated and squeezed with extreme pressure
The Rock Cycle Think about relationships among the major rock groups and illustrate the Rock Cycle Diagram in your journal as we go through the PPT.

In Conclusion… • The rock cycle demonstrates the relationships among the three major rock groups • It is powered by the Earth’s heat • It involves processes on the Earth’s surface as well as the Earth’s interior • It connects the “water cycle” with the “tectonic cycle”.
