Rock Cycle Write on the RIGHT Side
What processes change rock? – Natural processes make and destroy rock. – Three processes that change rock are: § Weathering § Erosion § Deposition
Processes that change rock Weathering Erosion Deposition Water, wind, ice, and changes in temperature break down rock into fragments called sediment Sediment is moved from one place to another Sediments are eventually deposited (or come to rest) in bodies of water and other low-lying areas

Other Factors that Change Rock Temperature and Pressure – Rock can be pressed by rock or layers of sediment on top of it. – Rock that is located deeper below the Earth’s surface increases in temperature. If pressure and temperature are high enough, the buried rock changes to metamorphic rock.
What is the Rock Cycle? – Rock Cycle: Series of processes in which rock changes from one type to another
Igneous to Sedimentary & Metamorphic – When igneous rock is exposed on – While beneath the Earth’s surface, it may break down igneous rock can change to into sediment. When this sediment is metamorphic rock under high pressed and cemented, it becomes temperature and pressure sedimentary rock
Sedimentary to Metamorphic & Igneous – When pressure and temperature changes, sedimentary rock may become metamorphic rock or it may melt to form igneous rock
Metamorphic to Igneous & Sedimentary – Under certain temperature and – Metamorphic rock can be broken pressure, metamorphic rock will melt down by weathering and erosion to and form magma, which can cool to form sediment that forms form igneous rock. sedimentary rock

Draw the Rock Cycle – On the next slide is a picture of the rock cycle. Draw and label the diagram of the rock cycle in your journal. If you do not have enough room, draw your diagram on the next page. – Don’t forget to label what is happening at each arrow! – Color your picture when you are done. I recommend you color code the arrows, just like in the picture
