River Oaks Elementary School IB World School State of School Annual Update Fall 2019 Keri Fovargue, Ph. D. Head of School Dr. Keri Fovargue, Head of School

Proposed Mission Statement River Oaks Elementary School develops extraordinary learners through an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme of differentiated, rigorous inquiry so that children may innovate and collaborate globally. We offer authentic learning experiences within a transdisciplinary framework. We teach conceptually and afford students agency through choice, voice, and ownership. For our early learners, we view play as the primary driver of inquiry and we recognize that children are born naturally curious.

Our Core Beliefs All learners: • have the right to develop their gifts and talents, • benefit from project-based learning that fosters creativity and innovation; and • deserve enrichment opportunities that stimulate intellectual, physical, and creative growth.

Our Core Beliefs All stakeholders (learners, faculty, staff, parents, and community members): • play a vital role in the success of our school; • thrive in a culture of mutual respect; and • embody the ten attributes of the IB Learner Profile: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open -minded, caring, risk takers, balanced, and reflective.

Vanguard GT Magnet Program River Oaks is proud to be an exemplary elementary magnet school for the Houston Independent School District, HISD. Texas Education Agency – Parent User Friendly Site https: //txschools. gov/ Accountability system is fairly new. It has been in place for two years. We stayed exactly the same on the overall score even though we increased +2 under the Student Progress Measure. Science is a single measure Third quartile is unusual for ROE 10 -15 students needed to miss no more than four questions on the test Measure was 52 to score in the first quartile for the distinction We were at 39% (with such a small population of 110 students – you must put the data in context

Attendance In 2018 -2019, we lost approximately $65, 000

PD Focus for 2019 • New ELAR Adoption and Literacy Alignment • Everyday • The Mathematics Enhanced PYP • Formative Assessments – On Track • Differentiated Instruction with an emphasis on Inclusion and Dyslexia Intervention • Gifted Education Plan for 415 Students

Looking Ahead • Trends indicate ROE will continue to increase in zoned enrollment, and decrease in magnet enrollment. • Curriculum changes may occur based on best practice and research such as meeting the needs of students who are dyslexic and limited English Proficient as these populations continue to increase over time. • Budgeting for the future is significantly important for ROE as House Bill 3 is implemented.
