Summary I’m sure everybody knows the gist of the show, but for the sake of keeping everybody on the same page, lets review. River Monsters is a wildlife documentary featuring dangerous aquatic creatures from around the world. It follows Jeremy Wade, an extreme angler and biologist as he does research on local myths and folklore. Then he travels to the respective region to capture and analyze this legendary beasts. He studies to see how these animals live in their surrounding environments and inspect their “deadly” natures to see if they really live up to their legends. River Monsters is one of the most-watched, most successful programs in Animal Planet’s history. It has also quickly become one of the most-viewed series on Discovery Channel too. My job is to make it even better.
The Science: The good and the bad River Monsters is a show about the aquatic fauna of the world. Naturally we are looking at biology and animal sciences when analyzing these creatures. We see how these animals interact with their surrounding environments and what happens when they come into contact with other animals and people. We sometimes look at geology and earth science to help us locate these animals. Now lets look at the pros and cons of the science behind this show.
Pros Cons A lot of the animals in this show are famous for being killers or simply very vicious. This daredevil aspect of analyzing these rabid creatures makes this show worth watching. When we are studying the biology of these dangerous animals, we mostly only look for freshwater fauna. This show can get very diverse and interesting if we decided to expand to other ecosystems. This show is both educational and informative even to Jeremy Wade puts his life in danger every time he younger viewers. A lot of young minds are led towards makes contact with these dangerous creatures. No the path of pursuing biology. safe way of studying them has been created yet. Aside from the freshwater “killers”, diseases like malaria make it dangerous for the camera crew and Wade to on expeditions to find these creatures.
In conclusion, River Monsters is an intense show that is captivating its viewers by educating them on infamous creatures shrouded in mystery. Those less interested in the science aspect is pulled in by the daredevil, Jeremy Wade. However the show could be improved by expanding research from freshwater rivers to other biomes and ecosystems. There are more fascinating animals that we can be analyzing and filming. We can so make this show better and safer for Wade and his camera crew by working more on ways to capture these animals without putting the animals nor the people at risk.
In the future One of the ways I said this documentary can be improved is if we introduce more animals from different ecosystems. We can go analyze and study creatures from the amazon rainforest or go deep sea diving for animals that have ever been filmed before. Our fanbase is so large that the possibilities are endless and we don’t have to restrict ourselves to freshwater animals. Our next show can be “Monsters of the world”.
