What is Risk Management? What is risk management? Risk management is a system for dealing with the likelihood that a future event will cause some kind of harm to your business. Risk management provides strategies, processes and tools to monitor, recognize and deal with a risk event.

What are the benefits of implementing risk management? A solid risk management plan enables you to enhance safety, minimize lawsuits, meet regulatory compliance standards, make better business decisions and enhance asset management.

How expensive is it to implement a risk management plan? Always much less than the potential costs involved if your business does not manage risk. Consider the loss of business revenue, damage in credibility, litigation fees and other expenses.

Risk Management Worries § Biggest PR nightmare: sexual assault or abuse, stalking § Most common: physical injury, blamed on field maintenance, improper supervision, poor medical assistance, etc. The “out of control”coach/player: physical assault and verbal threats Competition-based claims: unfair application of rules, suspensions Other areas: driving, portable goals, embezzlement/fraud

Risk Management Plan Emergency Medical Plan - Has been developed with the assistance of local doctors, hospitals, and EMS. Team captains/managers/coaches will be specifically trained how to activate the Emergency Medical Plan.

The Plan elements Team captain/manager/coach designates who calls EMS Team captain/manager/coach will designate two teammates who will stay with any injured athlete No less than two participants from your teams will provide a cell phone during activities

The Plan continued Call 911 for all emergencies The nearest treatment facility is __________ Team captain/manager/coach designates who will meet EMS and then guide them to the injured person

Travel Plan The alternative Emergency Medical Plan when traveling to other facilities will need the location of the nearest treatment facility supplied to participants; And it is the team captain/manager/coaches responsibility to obtain such information prior to the event.

Inspection Checklist: During the off season is the time for planning and completing necessary modifications, repairs, and maintenance.

Participant Registration Forms • Team registration will include the information about requirements for the person registering the team as the responsible party to inform those players on that team that they are responsible for knowing, understanding and following all the associations rules, policies and procedures. Which will be kept on the web page and updated on a continual basis as needed.

Waiver / Release Of Liability The organization will require that the following form will be signed by both the sports participant and/or parent or guardian prior to the start of each seasonal year before the participant will be allowed to participate in any way: Waiver / Release Of Liability NO Exceptions!

EDUCATION § It can be helpful to use organizational resources to “spread the word” about risks members may face Examples: –need to anchor goals -First aid and sports medicine advice -Common sense items such as hydration, handling head injuries, caution with blood, etc. -Field maintenance/inspection advice (the checklists) Education does two things: 1. Shows you tried 2. Diminishes the chances of an incident
