Risk Assessment
Introduction This is a assessment score for Xander L a drug addict and Colleen. Two risk assesment scores are used in the study. They are: Scale 1 -3 for low, medium and high The general score scale of 1 -5
Colleen M. Colleen has a number of undetermined problems. No one specifically knows what is going on in her life or what is wrong with her. Its either true that she gets involved in the activities with no intention or she perfectly knows what she is doing. She has been counted in a death case for the neighbor, interfering with accident scene and the potential drug problem. At the moment she does not have a place to stay. All these poses potential risk to her life and that of other.
Cont. . There is a very high chance that she is going to jail for the involuntary murder. On the score of 1 -3, it is at 3. It would be difficult to prove it was accidental because it rather appear a careless attempt to sound a warning form the investigation point of view. For the case of taking the shoes from a passengers foot, the chances of her going to jail for interfering with an accident scene is at a score of 3 too. She is not actually mad though she may be under age. The drug case has a risk score of two since it can be accidental if the level is low. There are possibilities that she can go to jail or rehabilitation center.
Cont. . Generally he activities are a threat to her own life. This alone puts the overall score at 5 on the 1 -5 score scale. One can argue out that at one point she will do something that end up killing her or more people. Homelessness implies she lacks proper guidance so even the drug problem is a possibility in her life. The other potential risk is getting pregnant and giving birth to a homeless child in the streets. If she is not helped soon, she may join one of the bad groups making her a serious threat to the society.
Xander L. Xander also risk facing jail term. He is documented gang member. On the scale of 1 -3, the probability of him going to jail for an activity associated with the gang is at 2. He is a potential threat to himself and other people. This is so since the gang activities are often a danger to the society members. The activities involved in the gang ship involves a lot of violence that may one day result to his death. The argument by the law may be that he may not easily change from these activities if not pushed to.
Cont. . The second risk he is exposed to is that of drugs. He is a drug addict as it appears. The probation period were probably allowed to him because he has a mother whom could give guidance and counseling to him. The situation is out of hand with the two probation periods and no change he risk being taken to rehabilitation center on a permanent basis. The drugs and jail are not the only risks he faces, he can die. Drug addiction kills at one point. In fact the risk of him dying from drug problem or the gang activities is at maximum. Both on the 1 -3 and 1 -5 scales.
Xander and Colleen While Xander has a known drug problem, Colleen seems to have one but no one knows including herself or she is just denying. Possibility of Colleen being given another chance to change from this is higher than Xander as he had been given the chance prior. Colleen faces permanent jail time in the children prison for murder as Xander faces permanent long periods in jail for gang activities. While Xander had guidance from his mother Colleen did not have any. Every decision she makes are her own. Comparing the two in front of the law officers, Colleen can be viewed as a victim of circumstances while Xander can be seen as one who just can’t change.
Cont. . Colleen is a first timer in almost every activity she has engaged in. Xander seems to me used to the activities. For both of them, there activities if left to continue will harm the community in one way or another. That is a risk the law can not allow to take place. They both face a possible death at one point due to their activities if they do not change or are made to change. The kind of the life they live is much more dangerous to Colleen being a girl compared to the dangers that Xander faces.
Addition Colleen faces much more threats and risks that are yet to be determined. If left out in the street, no one can predict what she can do. She has been in cases non of which is similar to any other. It is therefore possible that what she will do next is a danger to herself and other but no one can predict it. This a reason why she should be out of the streets until her behavior is corrected. Xander on the other hand is a little bit predictable. Atleast his problems are not. It is easier to determine where to start helping or correcting him.
Recommendations For Xander’s case, It is clear rehabilitation has not help him. The mother’s guidance has also not helped much. However sentencing him a longer jail term may make him see the consequences of his action. For the case of Colleen, Rehabilitation might work. She needs to be somewhere she can be guided and counselled. A place she cannot run away. May be staying with other people with a similar problem and seeing some leave finally for home may one day make her feel the same way.
