Introduction Rimini is the main tourist resort on the Adriatic Riviera since 1843. It extends for 15 km along the coast of the Adriatic Sea with hotels, nightclubs , bathing and sports facilities.
A bit of history. . Rimini's historical and cultural level is not indifferent. In fact, it is a colony founded by the Romans in 268 BC, it was vital communication link between the north and the south of the peninsula, and on its soil Roman emperors erected monuments such as the Arch of Augustus, Tiberius' Bridge and the Amphitheatre.
A past of twothousand years. . . During the early Renaissance court of Malatesta was one of the most vibrant era , hosting the likes of Leon Battista Alberti, Piero della Francesca, Roberto Valturio , and producing works such as the Malatesta Temple. In the nineteenth century was also one of the most active cities in the revolutionary front , while during the Second World War the city was the scene of violent clashes and fierce bombardment , but also a fair partisan resistance , which earned her the honor of a golden medal at the civic value.

Historical beauties: Castel Sigismondo The first fortification system dating back to the founding of the city. Castel Sigismondo , and residence of the Malatesta fortress , was built between 1437 and 1446 by the lord of Rimini, Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta. The system of irregular polygonal Castel Sigismondo was designed to cope with the blows of guns , according to the military techniques of the period , the ramparts and towers , facing the city , they had to defend the ladies from citizenship even before the external enemies. Following the transformations between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries the fortress has survived the massive central core.
Historical beauties: Arco d'Augusto The Arch of Augustus , is the most ancient roman arch that still exists today. It was built in 27 BC both as a port city ( the medieval Porta Aurea ) and as a triumphal arch in honor of Augustus, to celebrate the restoration , which he did run , the Via Flaminia, at the point where this had ended and the beginning of the Via Emilia. D. 14 at the behest of Augustus himself and ended the reign of Tiberius in 21 AD It consists of five arches of different sizes. Its strength is due to an ingenious system of arches and the layer of gravel , removed, has jeopardized its stability. It is one of the most important Roman bridges and best preserved in the world. During the Second World War, was bombed several times and had to support the passage of tanks. Today it is still used by cars.
Historical beauties: Tempio Malatestiano It is an intense love story that tells the Malatesta Temple (1450) , a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance. Love is the one between Sigismund and his young lover later became his wife. Sigismund did make this work with the idea that it should become a mausoleum for himself and his wife. With the facade of marble , signed by a giant in the history of architecture, Leon Battista Alberti, the Malatesta Temple contains a series of chapels and treasures : a crucifix by Giotto, a fresco by Piero della Francesca. Historical beauties: Piazza Cavour is the political and administrative center of the city. Since the Middle Ages it became the most important square , thanks to its greater proximity to the port , and especially thanks to the presence of the public fountain , the municipal buildings , the cathedral and the castle. On the square facing the Garampi Palace , the Palace dell'Arengo , the Palazzo del Podesta, the Municipal Theatre and the Fish. In the center is the monument to Pope Paul V and the Fontana della Pigna. The square took on the current configuration after the construction of the Municipal Theatre , built on the site of the building of the furnaces , and the restoration of municipal buildings , executed between 1917 and 1925.
Historical beauties: Piazza Tre Martiri Three Martyrs Square , the commercial center of the city, opens onto the ancient Roman forum. Entitled in the modern age of Julius Caesar , assumed its present name in 1945 in memory of three martyrs executed partisans here in August 1944. On the square, the only entirely arcades in Rimini , overlooking the clock tower and the church of Minims of St. Francis of Paola ; isolated rise of Julius Caesar 's Column and the shrine of St. Anthony of Padua. Two excavations , one inside the square and one in Via Quattro Novembre , allow you to see the original flooring of the Roman forum , whose floor level lies at a level lower than the current one.
