What does Trans mean? Transgender-umbrella term for when gender identity and biological sex assigned at birth do not match
Trans Umbrella People under the transgender umbrella may describe themselves using one or more of a wide variety of terms Transgender Woman: People who were assigned male a birth but identify and live as a women. Transgender Man: People who were assigned female at birth but identify and live as a man. Transsexual: To experience a gender identity inconsistent or not culturally associated with the sex they were assigned at birth. Non-binary or genderqeer: terms that people who aren't entirely male or entirely female use to describe their gender identity, (Note: NCTE uses both the adjectives “male” and “female” and the nouns “man” and “woman” to refer to a person’s gender identity. ) Everyone—transgender or not—has a gender identity. How are you going to respond? You have a sibling or friend who makes the decision to tell their parents they are gay. Their parents are not okay with it. How can you help them? You’ve been told you aren’t allowed to do something because it doesn’t fit your gender. What would you say? How can you educate them? If you have questions and don’t feel comfortable asking your question aloud write it on the back of you paper and I will answer it anonymously.
