Rick Riorden’s Life He attended Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio. He worked as an editor for the school newspaper and won third place in state for UIL feature writing. He also got in trouble for publishing an underground newspaper that made fun of the school, especially the losing football team. (The football team later egged his car). He began college at North Texas State (because he actually thought he wanted to be a guitar player and they had the best music program), but then he transferred to the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated with a double major in English and history. He got certified to teach English and History from UT San Antonio. He did his student teaching in the San Antonio Independent School District. His first full-time job was teaching middle school in New Braunfels, Texas. After that, him and his wife to San Francisco. They lived there for eight years and he taught at Presidio Hill School. Then they had their two sons, Haley and
My favorite book The Lighting Thief Percy is a regular boy, but soon finds out that he is the son of Poseidon, the god of war, and is considered a “halfblood. ” He travels to half- blood camp to train, but decides to find three emerald balls spread out across the country to talk to his father about leaving him with only his mom to take care of him. There are many problems along the way, many monsters, and an appearance by Hades. There are many appearances by many Greek gods and different myths. http: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=xko 1 Mx 5 w 4 tg
Why I like his books I like Rick Riorden’s books because he always provides an entertaining element in every situation of his books and connects with his readers. I can always hope that when I start one of his books that I will be satisfied when I am finished. I also like when he provides a Greek connection with gods and myths. When the titans were freed in “Attack of the Titans”, he provided the battle which was a real Greek battle, not a fictional element. My final reason I like him is that he can slip in a hidden amount of enticing humor. Grover, the half human, half goat half- blood, is one of my favorite characters in the book because in an intense situation, he will add a subtle joke to smooth the situation out.
