LOOK UP • Which lines were most meaningful to you? • What does the following passage mean to you? – “The media we call social is anything but When we open our computers and it’s our doors we shut”
What would it mean if we could all live by these lines? • “So look up from your phone, shut down the display, • Take in your surroundings, make the most of this day. ”
Technology & Your Brain • Our brains were not built for continuous digital monitoring. Excessive technology use can lead to fatigue, irritability, distractedness and digital fog. • Technology stimulates the brain like a drug, providing immediate and highly reinforcing feedback. It can co-opt the same brain systems that are indicated in drug addiction.
What can you do? Some people put themselves on a digital diet! You could try: Put your phone away in another room after 9 pm Limit your TV or video games to 5 hours a week. Limit tech time to 20 minute intervals. Turn phones off during meals or when hanging with friends. Resist checking messages when talking with others!
