“Librarian”-- “Library” l l l What does it mean to YOU? What does it mean to your peers? What does it mean to your administrators/bosses/supervisors? What does it mean to your family? How do we describe our profession to non-librarians? FHSLA, 4/99
What is a “profession”? l l Based on a core body of knowledge Reflects a sense of altruism -service is what is contributed to society Based on ethical principles and values Part of, contributes to a greater whole FHSLA, 4/99
