Revision – The Great Gatsby Essays First, read the entire essay all the way through, making no marks or suggestions on the paper. Next, add comments using the “Suggestions” tool (upper right hand corner). Your comments will show up as green to you (and likely pink to your partner). You should comment on THREE specific things your partner did well. (Example: Good job with your intro. I thought your hook about your experiences with careless people was really good. ) Then, you should add three suggestions for what your partner could do better. (Example: I know that we aren’t supposed to quote two sentences. I see that you did quote an two sentences in this paragraph. You might want to just pick the most important part of the quote and just include that with your own words. ) Finally, take time to look through your partner’s essay for mechanical errors. Here is a list of some items you should check for: Does the author spell characters’ names correctly? Does your author italicize The Great Gatsby? Count the number of sentences in each paragraph. There should be at least five – make a comment if your partner needs to add to a paragraph. Does the author use formal language? (NO I/ME, YOU, ETC. ) Does the author use their/there/they’re, your/you’re, it’s/its and other commonly confused words correctly?
