Here you go… Hamstrings Deltoids Latissimus dorsi Gasrocnemius Triceps Pectorials Intercostals
Memory test Can anyone get all 7 in order? Do you think this is a practical way to remember information? Method of Loci A method of memorising information by creating a ‘memory palace’ and placing each item to be remembered at a point in your ‘memory palace’. The information can then be retrieved in order by following a route around the ‘memory palace’.
Creating a ‘memory palace’
Your ‘memory palace’ Now think of a familiar route, e. g. around your living room: Write down 7 objects from your chosen location number them 1 -7 in order of their placing in the room.
Here you go… Magnetic Internal Chemical Kinetic Electrostatic Elastic potential Gravitational potential
Memory palace example 1. Bin Magnetic 2. Chair Internal 3. Wardrobe Chemical 4. Desk Kinetic 5. Bedside table Electrostatic 6. Bed Elastic potential 7. Shelf Gravitational potential
Reflect: Things to remember about the method of loci • If you don’t practise your memory palace you will forget it • Don’t use the same object twice in your memory palace • Use stand out visual connections with your objects and information you are trying to remember
Technique 5: Story board Turn the story below to pictures to help you remember it! Blueberries don’t simply improve memory – they can actually reverse memory loss. A study published in the Journal of Neuroscience that after eating their daily dose of berries, the rodents learned faster, had a better short-term memory. Broccoli is a source of two crucial nutrients that help improve brain function. Vitamin K helps to strengthen cognitive abilities – people who eat plenty of broccoli perform better on memory tests. Broccoli also includes a sizeable serving of folic acid, which can help ward off Alzheimer’s disease. Studies suggest that a lack of folic acid could lead to depression, so eating plenty of broccoli could also keep you happy. Who says that healthy food can’t be delicious? Eating a daily portion of dark chocolate has been found to improve blood flow to the brain. So don’t feel guilty about that chocolate bar – your brain will thank you!
