Review You should be now be very familiar
Review • You should be now be very familiar with the context of ‘Upcycling’ from the work completed from the last week. • Ensure you have completed all tasks before you start with the development of your own ideas and ensure you have summarised your findings for all tasks. • Review your summary about your client- who are they, what are their needs and interests before you consider this next stage.
Overview • This is the start of your design section which carries 25 marks out of 100 for an NEA project. It involves a lot of modelling and continuous exploration of ideas through research to help you refine and develop your ideas so this is only the initial stages of this section. • You will have been through this process in your GCSE work so this is similar but will be a step up from that in terms of the development. • This task is setting you off on your initial stages of design. We will go back to writing a design brief and detailed specification once you have thought of a range of design opportunities.
Week 4 – Objectives – Upcycling Project • Students will begin to undertake design ideas for their product, conducting client feedback as they design. • Additional research which is relevant to their own product ideas will need to be undertaken and presented in relation to their ideas.
Task 1 Bullet point all of the ideas from your research and client profile that you need to consider when designing your product. This will form the beginning of a design specification later Slide 5 and 6 show examples of initial ideas. The drawings are clearly annotated and the student has really though about how the product would be used. Task 2 Sketch out some initial ideas for a range of products in pencil only. Do not worry about your drawing at this stage, just really consider creating a new and exciting product idea. Annotate your ideas in full to explain where they have come from Use you knowledge and understanding from DT last year to annotate possible techniques an materials at the same time. I suggest you do 2 A 3 pages or equivalent for this stage to really start the thinking process Include additional research on the pages of other products or close up of products or materials or designer work that may help you develop your ideas further Accessfm will also help you to annotate your pages in more detail This work will be used to develop modelling for your designs at a later date.
Initial Design Ideas - examples
Review • Have you annotated your design in detail and included as many Accessfm points as you can? • Have you included extra research and explained how your previous research has helped you with your ideas? • Have you included client feedback on your design pages and how their response to your designs will help you to develop them further. ?
