Review of TDR Chapter 1 Introduction Billy Fredriksson
Review of TDR Chapter 1 ”Introduction” Billy Fredriksson with thanks to S Näsström
FINDINGS – 1 • Ch 1 is the Introduction Chapter from the CDR, divided into three subsections • Ch 1. 1 The evolving story • Ch 1. 2 Top level parameters • Ch 1. 3 The ESS Programme TDR Internal Review, Lund, October 2012 2
COMMENTS - 1 Ch 1. 1 The evolving story • An excellent summary of the history of ESS up until the CDR. • Need only minor changes and additions to be up to date for the TDR • Table 1, Check data relating to the text, e. g. Power column Ch 1. 2 Top level parameters • Check for updated and approved parameters, performance and technology TDR Internal Review, Lund, October 2012 3
COMMENTS - 2 Ch 1. 3 The ESS Programme • The whole section need obviously to be updated for the TDR. Some detailed comments: • Revisit the text concerning the Design Update, Prepare to Build and Construction and Operations projects. Especially the text concerning the Construction project phases is difficult to follow and it need to be in more focus for the TDR. • Figure 1. 1: Master Programme Schedule. When including the new Master schedule, try to produce a more ”easy to read” copy. The present figure is “blurry” and difficult to read. TDR Internal Review, Lund, October 2012 4
COMMENTS - 3 Ch 1. 3 The ESS Programme cont`d • Figure 1. 2: The Programme Organisation and governance organigramme. When including the new organigramme, make sure that the text is: 1. compatible with the text relating to the organigramme 2. compatible with the text relating to the master schedule. • The in-kind issue and the management of interfaces are mentioned as key issues for ESS in the CDR. This is very good and for the TDR it is even more important. TDR Internal Review, Lund, October 2012 5
COMMENTS - 4 General comments to Chapter 1 Introduction • As the TDR is mainly technical there are reasons to mention how the quality of the ESS system is assured, e. g. our policies for: 1. Quality Assurance and 2. Systems Engineering • In the CDR the architecture of authority and responsibility is mentioned. These are important issues for the construction phase and should be elaborated, may be even more for the TDR. • There also reasons to mention our policies concerning life cycle perspective (incl decommissioning), safety and security TDR Internal Review, Lund, October 2012 6
RECOMMENDATIONS 1. Update the chapter, taking comments into account, ready to be included in Draft 3 1 November TDR Internal Review, Lund, October 2012 7
Review of TDR Chapter 1 ”Conclusions” Billy Fredriksson with thanks to S Näsström
FINDINGS - 1 Chapter 13 Conclusions • As the TDR is not finalized conclusions are naturally and logically not yet written • The TDR should be mature enough to write the conclusions after this internal review • If there will be an Executive Summary in the beginning of the TDR the conclusions could be rather short. Otherwise there should be more elaborate conclusions. TDR Internal Review, Lund, October 2012 9
RECOMMENDATIONS • Write the conclusions in time to be included in Draft 3 1 November • It is strongly recommended to write an Executive Summary and therefore the conclusions could be made short. TDR Internal Review, Lund, October 2012 10
