Questions Paul Addresses in Romans 9 -11 Reality: Most Jews have rejected Jesus as the Messiah. Is God breaking his promises to Israel? Why have the Jews fallen? Is there any hope for the Jews? How should Gentiles view their place?

All Israel Saved (Romans 11: 25 -32) This is the mystery: Partial hardening of ethnic Israel Gentiles of faith come in Result: All (true) Israel is saved (9: 6) Lesson for Gentiles: Don’t get full of yourself.

Isaiah 59: 15 -17 The LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice. He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no one to intercede; then his own arm brought him salvation, and his righteousness upheld him. He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and wrapped himself in zeal as a cloak.

Isaiah 59: 18 -20 According to their deeds, so will he repay, wrath to his adversaries, repayment to his enemies; to the coastlands he will render repayment. So they shall fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he will come like a rushing stream, which the wind of the LORD drives. “And a Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression, ” declares the LORD.

Jeremiah 31: 31 -32 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the LORD.

Jeremiah 31: 33 -34 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD, ’ for they shall know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. ”

All Israel Saved (Romans 11: 25 -32) How should Gentiles think of Jews? Many have rejected the gospel (28) Still the children of Abraham that God desires to receive the promises (28 -29) You have been disobedient and received mercy, so can they (30 -31) “God has shut up all in disobedience so that He may show mercy to all. ”

Oh the Depths! (Romans 11: 33 -36) What does Paul praise God for at the end of Romans 1 -11? Wisdom, knowledge, unsearchable judgments, unfathomable ways Two OT passages to close Isaiah 40 – No one counsels God Job 41 – God owes no one

Romans 12 Group 1: v. 1 -2 Group 2: v. 3 -8 Group 3: v. 9 -12 As we read, ask: What does Paul want his readers to DO? How does it relate to what he’s taught in chapters 1 -11?

Therefore I urge you… (Romans 12: 1 -13) “Present your bodies…” Following Christ (3: 25), New People (6 : 4) “Members of one body” No distinction (3: 22, 10: 12), One tree (11: 17) “Rejoicing in hope” Hope against hope (4: 18), Exult in hope (5: 5), future inheritance (8: 18 -25)

After today, are you able to…? List two attributes of God that Paul praises at the end of Romans 11. Make one connection between an application in chapter 12 and a teaching earlier in the book.
