What is special revelation? l l l Occurs when God is believed to have spoken directly to an individual/group of people It is different from general revelation as it is something that does not happen ‘generally’ everyday It is ‘specially’ for one person l l l Examples Enlightenment Hearing God’s call Visions or dreams Miracles Prayer and worship

The power and Impact of revelation l 1. 2. 3. The power of revelation is to reveal God’s nature to the religious believer. These can include – Providing proof of God’s existence/belief Helping to start off a religion Helping to know what they must do to live as God wishes l l Some people can convert to a belief because of a revelation E. g. Saul, a Jew who persecuted Christians – on the road Damascus, saw a great bright light and a voice said to him that he must stop, go into the city where he will be told what to do next…he converted and became Paul, a follower of Jesus

Special revelation occurred in religious scriptures about St Paul (Saul) he was a man wanting to wipe out Christians, and while on his way to Damascus he had a vision of Jesus who asked why he was persecuting him. After this vision he then became a Christian and became St Paul. l l
