Revalidation Seminar @ Plymouth University Your professional pathway… One year on: Plymouth University and NMC progress Margaret Fisher and Pam Nelmes 7 th June 2017
Welcome • Welcome and thanks • Housekeeping • Purpose • Plan of morning Programme
Plymouth University Revalidation Conference 20 th April 2016 “An opportunity to reflect and build bridges” How far have we come along the pathway?
To date • Monthly – bi-monthly Revalidation Workshops • ‘Health-check’ to review Revalidation progress at time of PDR (but kept separate) • Regular newsletters • Moodle site • 1/4 of the over 100 NMC staff in the University trained as Confirmers • Nearly 1/3 of the staff have undertaken Revalidation • Several staff have acted as Reflective Discussion Partners and/or Confirmers for non-University staff • Multi-professional health and social care Schwartz Rounds have been set up across the two Faculties: FHHS and PUPSMD • Reflective Discussion Forum is being set up in partnership with RDEFT • Pilot survey has been undertaken in preparation for the RRi. P project; ethical approval awaited for full study
Comments and emerging issues • Role of Reflective Discussion Partner and Confirmer pivotal • Staff appreciate having choice over Confirmer • Confirmers in the University are all NMC registrants (prepared) and very aware of accountability • Revalidation process generally more straight-forward than expected • Majority of staff find this a constructive developmental opportunity • Learning from each other • Suggestions that some elements of the process may need to be more prescriptive to avoid ‘evaders’ • Potential for some staff to ‘fall between gaps’ – may result in nonrevalidation
So what are the NMC perspectives to date? 3 -year IPSOS MORI longitudinal study in progress
