偕叡理牧師（Rev. George Leslie Mackay）因其宣教 上之成就獲贈神學博士，而稱馬偕博士，加拿大首位 海外宣教士。 Rev. George Leslie Mackay received the doctor of theology because his accomplishment of the mission, named Dr. Mackay and became the first Canada foreign missionary. 「宣教」是由英文 Mission 來的，意思是「使命、任務」。「宣教士 」的英文稱 Missionary。

近三十年間不只弘揚基督教教義，建立北台灣基督長老教 會，他所建立的醫院和學校，也成為台灣現代化的里程碑， 對啟迪民智、開通思想和變換社會風氣，均有深遠之貢獻。 During almost 30 years, he was not only promoting the Christian doctrine. The hospital and school that he founded also became the milestone of the modernization in Taiwan. All these are a profound contribution to inspiring generals wisdom, morderning the public minds and transforming the values of the society. 里程碑這個詞有兩個單字可以使用，一個是landmark，另一個是 milestone，但這邊我會選擇用milestone，因為landmark比較是用在於 建築物上，而milestone是達到某一個成就。

他以淡水為家，在此娶妻生子，融入民眾之 生活，死後埋骨淡水砲台埔。 For Mackay, Tamsui is home. He married a wife and had a son and integrate into the life of the public. He was buried on Hobe Fort in Tamsui. 融入有fit in， integrate into 以及 assimilate into 三種用法，我最後 選擇的是integrate into 是因為它有（使）融入（某社會或群體）； （使）成為一體的意思。
