STARTING A GIFTED REFERRAL TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES • ALL GIFTED REFERRAL STUDENTS WILL NEED 6 WEEKS OF TIER 1 DATA • STUDENTS K-2 MUST BE ADVANCED IN EITHER/OR READING/MATH OR CREATIVITY AND/OR CRITICAL THINKING • STUDENTS 3 -12 MUST BE PROFICIENT IN EITHER/OR READING/MATH OR CREATIVITY AND/OR CRITICAL THINKING • COMPLETE A G 1 AND EMAIL TO YOUR SAT CHAIR • IF EL AND HAS “E” ALERT IN SYNERGY, COMPLETE R 6 AND G 7 • IF THE FIRST TWO QUESTIONS ON THE G 6 ARE ANSWERED “ONLY ENGLISH” OR “MOSTLY ENGLISH”, COMPLETE THE G 6. THE G 7 FORM IS NOT REQUIRED. • OBTAIN A NURSING SUMMARY FROM THE NURSE (G 2) • OBTAIN PARENT CONSENT ON G 6
GIFTED PRE-SCREENER • A PRE-SCREENER IS GIVEN TO THOSE STUDENTS THAT SAT HAS DETERMINED WILL MOVE FORWARD (PARENT REQUEST WILL HAVE PRE-SCREENER) • ALL STUDENTS RECEIVE THE PRACTICE ACTIVITIES FOR ALL SECTIONS OF THE COGAT PRIOR TO THE PRE-SCREENER – INCLUDING PRIVATE EVALUATIONS AND EL STUDENTS. • THE GIFTED PRE-SCREENER IS THE FIRST 3 SECTIONS OF THE COGAT (89 TH PERCENTILE OR HIGHER) • IF STUDENTS MEET CRITERIA OF THE PRE-SCREENER, SAT CHAIRS HAVE 15 CALENDAR DAYS TO COMPLETE THE PACKET AND SUBMIT IT TO THE DIAGNOSTIC CENTER (DO NOT SUBMIT DURING DECEMBER OR MAY) • IF STUDENTS DO NOT MEET CRITERIA, THE STUDENT RETURNS TO SAT AND EITHER IS GIVEN 8 WEEKS OF TIER 2 INTERVENTIONS OR EXITED FROM SAT. • STUDENTS WHO ARE EL WILL NOT BE GIVEN A PRE-SCREENER. THEIR PACKETS GO DIRECTLY TO THE DIAGNOSTIC CENTER. THEY DO RECEIVE THE PRACTICE ACTIVITES AT THEIR SCHOOL SITE. • PRIVATE EVALUATIONS WILL NOT BE GIVEN A PRE-SCREENER. THEIR PACKETS GO

PARENT REQUEST FLOWCHART – SAT CHARTER SCHOOLS Parent makes request to the principal for SPED testing SAT follows Guidelines for Parent Request for Special Education Evaluation Ye s Principal provides Parent Request for Initial SPED Evaluation form to parent SAT has sufficient evidence to honor parent request. Parent completes Parent Request for Initial SPED Evaluation form and returns to Principal gives copies of this form to the SAT chair, parent, and SAT Liaison Office SAT Chair contacts school Diag via email/phone to inform of parent request. SAT convenes in parallel while student is waiting to be tested. No SAT Chair completes Prior Written Notice of Refusal to Evaluate form SAT Chair sends copies to: parent (by Certified Mail), SAT Liaisons, principal and upload form to Synergy SAT Chair notifies school contact Diag of Refusal to Evaluate.

NON-QUALIFYING STUDENTS • DNQ IN ALL AREAS • IF THE STUDENT DOES NOT QUALIFY IN ANY AREA, THE STUDENT RETURNS TO SAT IN TIER 2. • DNQ IN ONE OR MORE AREA(S) • IF THE STUDENT QUALIFIES IN AT LEAST ONE AREA, THE MET WILL PUT TIER 2 IN PLACE FOR THE AREA(S) WHERE THE STUDENT DID NOT QUALIFY.
MANIFESTATION DETERMINATION REVIEW (MDR) (USE THIS FLOW CHART ONLY FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE IN SAT) Student who is in SAT is being considered for Long Term Suspension/Expulsion Principal receives hearing officer’s determination form. The SAT Chair must schedule an MDR meeting within 24 hours of the hearing. The meeting must occur within 10 days. Was the behavior a manifestation of the student’s suspected disability? No A Discipline Hearing is requested by principal. The hearing officer will make a determination based on provided evidence. Discussion at the meeting includes: Was the conduct in question caused by or have a direct substantial link to the student’s suspected disability? Was the conduct in question a direct result of the district’s failure to implement SAT interventions? SAT Chair invites necessary SAT Team members including parents, admin, teacher, etc. SAT Chair complete MDR form at meeting. Follow the disciplinary action recommended by the hearing officer. Ye s No further disciplinary action is followed. SAT paperwork needs to be modified and/or updated to meet the needs of the student.
