GAM Design Results from all 29 completed questionnaires -- both design & monitoring (excluding 3 “gender not applicable”) -- have been compiled for the overview of GEMs A, D, and G. GEM J questions, reflecting intended and actual results in the respective phases, are only included for the 28 project design questionnaires.

Gender Analysis FINDINGS & RECOMMENDATIONS: • Only 38% of projects consider social roles and dynamics in context/needs analysis • Analysis is slightly more often concerned with females than males; adolescents and young adults are a main focus; older adults may be less considered. • Help partners to understand the importance of articulating gender & age disparities that should affect how assistance is delivered

Tailored Activities FINDINGS & RECOMMENDATIONS: • • • Most projects say the DO consider social roles and dynamics in tailoring activities, somewhat inconsistent with the reported analysis There are 3 “targeted action” projects specifically tailored to address inequality and discrimination Young adults & adolescents remain a priority; activites adapted for older people is considerably lower

Participation: Influence on Project Management FINDINGS & RECOMMENDATIONS: • Participation decreases across the project cycle, with only 40% of projects involving affected people in review and monitoring. • Participation of both females and males is high; >20% of projects specifically engage with LGBTI people • Younger people appear to have more influence than older • Aim to engage all groups throughout the project, especially in monitoring

Planned Benefits (Design Phase) FINDINGS & RECOMMENDATIONS: • Over 75% of projects aim to measure “needs met” (effective & responsive actions) rather than / in addition to simply counting resources delivered • ~90% plan to disaggregate benefits by gender, and ~60% for at least one age group • Discuss with IM teams the difficulties of collecting and managing meaningful disaggregated data

GAM Monitoring in CBPF Projects Only 1 Burkina Faso project has completed the GAM for monitoring. More submissions are needed before we will see any useful information on these program elements.

2021 HPC GAM Summary – Venezuela • There are 51 approved projects in the 2021 HPC at Dec 10, 32 with completed GAM (63%) • GAM for Project Design: 31 GAM for Project Monitoring: 1 • The GAM is project specific so only its first occurrence in GMS is valid. (1 organization submitted the same GAM for 2 projects) • Two projects are “targeted action” projects specifically tailored to address inequality & discrimination • 3 projects say gender is “not applicable”, certifying that they have no contact with affected people or influence on assistance and/or the way it is delivered (OCHA, S 4 V, ACTED – coordination & data collection projects) • Transcription errors copying the GAM code into HPC: 8 (25%), reflecting a misperception that some results are “better” than others • Total GAM forms for Myanmar at Nov 2020: 306, with 32 found in HPC RECOMMENDATION: Remind users that there is no “required score” they should achieve on the GAM; the only requirement is that it must be completed. Ensure users also complete the GAM for project monitoring.
