The Cover Letter n n First and maybe most important part of the application package! Demonstrate why YOU are the right person for this job How you fit into job description n How you complement the department/company è Build description based on appropriate past experience and career goals n
The Cover Letter (cont. ) Content: n READ the job announcement n n n Check for must-haves, nice-to-haves Adjust each cover letter Leave out unrelated work experience Check spelling of text, address, name Get feedback from faculty/ references

Introduction n Make connection with employer Purpose for writing letter Current employment Highlight education/experience 2. n Separate teaching/ research/ extension Conclusion, thank you, and follow-up 3. n Include e-mail, phone number
The CV/ Résumé Content: n Be truthful and do not oversell yourself n Update CV frequently- especially your contact information n List ALL relevant skills and experiences n n Languages, software, work experience Account for all time List professional affiliations + involvement Include names of references in CV
