What is Respect, Equity & Diversity? Respect: To value and consider others at work What respect can look like in the workplace: • Courtesy including saying ‘hello’ to colleagues; • Having your contributions valued; • Good manners between colleagues; • Valuing and considering a person’s position in the organisation; • Respectful relationships in the workplace (up, down and across in an organisation);

Respect: To value and consider others at work What respect can look like in the workplace: • Fair treatment; • Consistency in management decisions; • The freedom to make mistakes as part of a learning process rather than being blamed; • Not being publicly humiliated; and • Being kept informed about relevant workplace information.

Respect Equity & Diversity Contact Officers (REDCOs) REDCOs support their colleagues by: • Championing the principles of respect, equity and diversity; • Modelling the ACTPS signature values and behaviours; and • Holding confidential discussion with colleagues about workplace issues they may be experiencing.
Respect Equity & Diversity Contact Officers (REDCOs) Championing the principles of respect, equity and diversity REDCOs can act as champions by: • Looking for opportunities to celebrate diversity (such as publicising events like Canberra Multicultural Festival or Wear It Purple Day); • Identifying workplace policies or practices that may disadvantage certain diverse groups and bringing the issue to the attention of a relevant manager; and/or • Calling out inappropriate conduct when they see it.
Respect Equity & Diversity Contact Officers (REDCOs) REDCOs can hold confidential conversations with you regarding workplace issues. • The primary function of REDCOs is to support and inform colleagues experiencing issues in the workplace • These issues can include: • Misconduct • Workplace bullying • Harassment • Discrimination • Other issues affecting your work
Respect Equity & Diversity Contact Officers (REDCOs) What a REDCO does when you talk to them: • Discuss the issue you are experiencing; • Provide impartial information on possible courses of action, resources and support services available to help you better understand resolve the issue; and • Treat all matters seriously, maintaining strict privacy and confidentiality.
Respect Equity & Diversity Contact Officers (REDCOs) What a REDCO cannot do when you talk to them: • Make judgements as to whether discrimination, harassment or bullying has occurred; • Discuss the issue with the person with whom you are experiencing it; • Provide counselling, dispute resolution or mediation services; and/or • Investigate your issue. A REDCO can, however, direct you to people, teams and services that can accommodate your needs related to the above.
