Did You Know? In richer parts of New York (Bridgehampton), $25, 505 is spent on per student. Poorest 10% of New York school districts (Elmira), only $12, 861 is spent on per student. Bridgehampton district has nearly double the amount of money spent per student than the Elmira district.
Why is There Resource Inequality in the First Place? Socio-Economic Status Determining factor in which school students will be placed in. Less technology and home reading at home. Low-Income Schools Older textbooks and less technology. Teacher Quality More under qualified teachers.
Voucher System The Voucher system is a state funded scholarship that pays for students to attend private school instead of public. Allows low-income families to send their child to a higher preforming school.
Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Main focus is to provide quality education all around the world for boys and girls, especially the poor. Countries willing to collaborate with GPE will be able to receive resources and funding.
A New Proposal Focus on providing lower income schools with more resources than wealthier schools. Lower income schools will be able to compete with other schools. Test scores go up Graduation Rate increases More students applying and attending college
The Tradeoff Wealthier families will not be in favor of this solution. Tax money won’t go directly to their own children. Goes to students in poorer areas. May not believe it is fair.
