RESOURCE 11: ELLIPSE BY CONCENTRIC CIRCLES METHOD JUNIOR CYCLE GRAPHICS STRAND: 2 D Graphics ELEMENT: Rugby is a highly energetic and engaging sport. Ireland has an excellent and successful national team. In 2019 the Irish Rugby team travel to Japan to compete for the World Cup, which is the ultimate prize in Rugby! Repeat for all. Step 7: Lightly connect the points by freehand method to form the ellipse curve and heavy in once you’re happy with the accuracy of the curve. TIP: Always look at the point ahead of you when drawing the curve, the pencil will follow if you trust it! PHYSICAL EDUCATION LINK Ready to ‘Ruck & Maul’ To Play Ball! An adult Rugby ball is 300 mm HOW DO WE LOCATE POINTS ON THE ELLIPSE CURVE? QUESTIONS long, KEYhas an elliptical WHY DO circumference of 770 mm and a WE DRAW THE ELLIPSE CURVE LIGHTLY AT FIRST AND THEN HEAVY AFTER? 3 THINGS I LEARNED – WRITE IT ON THE PAGE circular circumference of 620 mm. 3 -2 -1 STUDENT REFLECTION Technically a Rugby ball is 2 THINGS I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT – WRITE IT ON THE PAGE QUESTION I STILL HAVE – WRITE IT ON THE PAGE classified as an ‘Ellipsoid’ 1 shape. We’ll draw the ellipse. TECHNOLOGIES EDUCATION LINK The Rugby World Cup 2019 logo contains a number of graphical design inspirations. For example the Japanese language and flag, Volcanic Mount Fuji (located Southwest of the capital city Tokyo), a rugby ball and the Japanese samurai sword. So much Japanese culture and life in one symbol, that’s the power of graphical communication! JUNIOR CYCLE GRAPHICS SCOILNET JOE LYSTER 2019/20
