Critically Compare Official source is information about a situation released for journalists only. Unofficial source is information that isn’t meant for journalist. And normally shown through social media. Pros: Cons: Pros: • They are reliable • Give you key points • Generally accurate • Don’t let all • Often more descriptive information out. and emotive. • More time • Sometimes have more consuming. information than • Mostly written in nonofficial sources. descriptive, calm • Not written with an style. agenda on mind. Cons: • Could be unreliable • Can be opinionated by public • Can be bias • Could be inaccurate. Primary and Secondary research Primary research is new research to answer certain questions and that can involve interviews and questionnaires. My primary research I used was an article on the telegraph; http: //www. telegraph. co. uk/culture/theatre/dance/11705540/How-I-shamed-the-ballet-world-overdiscriminating-against-disabled-ballerinas. html (1) Secondary research is made by someone else’s research and split into official and unofficial sources. The secondary research I used was an interview with Pollyanna’s mum and auntie; https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=Nsv. HOBn. AQ 6 Y (2)
Vox Pops We wrote three questions before venturing into Canterbury town and asked four random people. The people we asked were of a variety of gender and all different ages. (3) I find from the elderly people we didn’t get as effective answers as the younger generation that we asked. If I were to do this again, I would probably ask more of a wider range of people, so that I can get more of a range of opinions. Pros: • Personal opinions • Wide range of opinions • Honest opinions Cons: • Only opinions • Unreliable • May not be accurate
Qualitative and Quantitative Qualitative is research that collects opinions and interest of the public. Quantitative is research that relate to measuring as it focuses on the quantity of something more than quality. Pros: • Interviewer is not limited with questions to ask • It can be emotive Pros: • Clear and precise • Quick Cons: • Long winded • Takes more time • Bias • Doesn’t ensure reliability • Difficult Cons: • Bias • Not detailed • Non-emotive
Questionnaire I created a survey on an anonymous website called survey monkey with ten questions about discrimination in dance which I believe was very successful. This is a type of primary research. Pros: • You have the control • Range of answers from different people Cons: • Time consuming (4)
Questionnaire Findings
Target Audience I decided to aim my questionnaire of discrimination in dance at 16 to 25 year old's. I chose this target audience because I wanted to know what people, growing up in our generation, thought of all the discrimination that happens in dance, whether they know about it or not. Unfortunely for me as survey monkey is an anonymous website, I did not know what age groups were answering my questionnaire. Although if I were to do it again I would add a question asking how old they were to begin with. (5)
Effectiveness and Limitations I believe my questions were very effective as I got a lot of responses and managed to create pie charts of the results, which is a example of quantitative research. However I would have added some questions if I were to do it again as well as change the wording of some of my original questions, so people understood what they were asking better. Limitations: • Had to have internet to do the questionnaire. • No restriction on who can take it. • Answers are restricted to yes and no.
