What This Power. Point Is About • This presentation is about showing my Questionnaires, analyzing my audience and what they prefer, my Notes and Analysis on certain film openings.
Questionnair e
Audience Analysis • From my analysis, I noticed that my audience mostly preferred comedy with one preferring action. • They also seemed to prefer Actors more while one preferred plot but the specific director at the helm didn’t matter to them. • The audience had different varying opinions but something that they all had in common was the wanting of the opening to establish the movie. Whether it be actors being funny or a fast-paced action opening, they want something of the movie to be established in the opening.
Notes on Film Openings Beverly Hills Cops • Establishing shots of the setting. • Non-Diegetic- Starts with upbeat music. • Bright city setting- People doing everyday things while a truck chase happens. • Ends with a medium shot of Police confronting another officer. • Criminals have darker outfits while the cops have lighter outfits. • Diegetic Sound is used with loud screeches as the Police chase the truck.
Notes on Film Openings 21 Jump Street • Starts with text saying what year it is and an aerial shot of a school bus. • Bright, vibrant colors. • Crowded school hallways. • Guy talks to a girl he likes with over the shoulder shots and reverse shots. • Non-Diegetic- Music playing in the background. • Diegetic-Teacher on the intercom calling for a student. • Ends with a student kicking a trash can.
Notes on Film Openings Hot Fuzz • Starts with a cop officer walking towards the screen and showing off his authority badge. • Montage of many different shots of the cop training. • Non-Diegetic- Music playing in the background. • Diegetic Sound- All the noises being made from the training seen. • Narrator telling us how the cop got to where he is. • Muted, dull colors. • Ends with the cop walking into an office.
Conclusion-Film Openings • All three comedy movies I watched all started out with some type of action happening. Two of them had bright colors while the other had more dull colors. This conveys that most movies of this style might want to try and start out bright instead of being dreary first. • The sound in the beginning varied with the music but all had one common thing in which that they were fast paced which helped set the tone for the movie and genre. • Beverly Hill Cops didn’t do much to establish any characters but 21 Jump Street and Hot Fuzz took their time to show and develop their characters and none of them really touched the main plot. It seems more necessary to take the opening slow and help establish these characters.
