Beginning with a Question • Rhetorical question: no answer expected • Obvious question: expect answer with a twist – Would you want to stop a drug addicted woman from neglecting or abusing a child? Most people would say “yes, ” but how many of those people would require this woman, who also needs help, to have her ovaries ripped out?
Beginning with a Definition • Is the word uncommon? • Do you have a new twist on the definition? – Spoiled – Hard working – Lazy – Altruistic is “unselfishly concerned for or devoted to the welfare of others” according to Dictionary. com. Some people have used their altruism to pay drug addicted women to be sterilized because these financers are “devoted to the welfare” of the suffering children with very little altruism shown to the disadvantaged woman.
Beginning with a Quotation • “In a big family the first child is kind of like the first pancake. If it's not perfect, that's okay, there a lot more coming along, ” according to Justice Anthony Scalia. For families in China, they have to pay a hefty fine if they want a full stack of pancakes thanks to the One Child Policy.
Beginning with a Surprising Statement • A typical corpse collector earns $14 per dead body that he/she drags off to the morgue. That’s about $14, 000 a year in high crime zones like Detroit where you don’t even have to clean the blood stains off the sideway as long as you can gather up as many organs off the ground from the gun-shot victim (Sandal 141). • If it is a statistic or specific, you need to cite your source. • Make sure it is common knowledge – An increasing number of kids are struggling to sit on the small Merry-go-Round ponies because they exceed the weight limits.

Introduction Paragraph- Essay #3 • Catchy opening (hook) • Background (bridge) • Thesis A typical corpse collector earns $14 per dead body that he/she drags off to the morgue. That’s about $14, 000 a year in high crime zones like Detroit where you don’t even have to clean the blood stains off the sideway as long as you can gather up as many organs off the ground from the gun-shot victim (Sandal 141). Sadly, people are trying to make profit off tragedies, such as the Detroit gun shot victims, whose families are too distraught to pick up their loved one’s brains off the corner, so they end up selling the grim task to the corpse collector. Families should not have to pay a corpse collector when a loved one is murdered.

• • Re-state Thesis What are the long term effects if this action continues/ceases? Universal Truth/global insight Call to Action In the end, paying corpse collectors should not be a financial obligation placed on families. If cities continue to shamefully charge families, we risk having dead bodies littering the streets, but if the city takes charge of this societal obligation, everyone can take pride in this community. Unexpected tragedies strike everyone at one point, whether it is death by crime or car accidents. And in almost every case, the living are left with the heartbreak and tears. Let’s ease the pain for the families. It is time to end this shameful practice. Write letters to your city officials demanding that the city be responsible for removing the deceased in a dignified manner free of charge. And, educate those naïve taxpayers who do not want to see their taxes increase 3 pennies per month by reminding them that it is a community service and they, too, would want to be treated equally respectful if faced with a tragedy.
