Communicating your research in APA style In-text citation Refer to the sources in the text using the author’s last name, date of the publication and page number, if appropriate. When you paraphrase information from a source you should cite the reference in the text. If you don’t want to mention the author’s name in the text this is how you do it, but not in bold (Smith, 2009, p. 33). I’ve used bold for illustration purposes only. Use this format after a direct quotation too. If you want to mention the author’s name in the text then you cite the source like this Jones (2013) says that. . . Bibliographic Reference List Provide sufficient information so that your reader can recover the source you have used. Arrange in alphabetical order. Jones, P. (2013). Referencing a website in the APA style. Retrieved from http: //www. jonesapastyle. com Smith, R. (2009). Referencing a book in the APA style. Portsmouth: Pompey Press.
