Research and Creativity Incentive Program (RCIP) Sponsored by the Research and Creativity Council November 19, 2019
Purpose • Intended to support faculty research, and scholarly and creative activities. • The ultimate goal is to receive an external award to continue the research or scholarly or creative activity. • This competition is expected to support several awards of up to $5, 000 each. • Projects will take place over a 12 -month funding period with a start date prior to December 31.
Submission Information • Applications are emailed to the Sponsored Programs Office at bergjm@buffalostate. edu. • All applications are confidential and will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the Research and Creativity Council. • Applicants will be informed of the Council’s decision within six weeks after the deadline date. • Any questions in reference to the incentive fund grant process should be directed to the Pre-Award and Contract Services Office at bergjm@buffalostate. edu.
Responsibilities if an Incentive Award is Received • At the end of the award period, the recipient is required to submit a report documenting the use of the funds or submit a request (with justification) for a maximum one-year extension. • The awardee is then required to submit a grant proposal within the following year to an outside sponsoring agency through the Sponsored Programs Pre-Award and Contract Services Office. • Recipients are also obligated to participate in the Faculty and Staff Fall Forum.
Eligibility • Tenure-track faculty from all disciplines are eligible to serve as the principal investigator (PI). • Lecturers, adjuncts, and other staff not in tenure-eligible positions may participate only as team members. • A faculty member is eligible to be the lead PI on only one proposal and may be a research team member or co-PI on no more than two other proposals.
Award and Duration • Awards will not exceed $5, 000. • The start date for all projects will be no later than December 31. • The project period will be 12 months from the start date.

RCIP Application con’t. • Export Controls: For projects involving foreign travel, download and complete the Export Controls Survey found at https: //sponsoredprograms. buffalostate. edu/export-controlscompliance. • An electronic copy of the entire proposal, signed by the PI, the PI’s department chair and dean, should be submitted via email to Sponsored Programs by 4: 00 p. m. on the deadline date. Email proposals to bergjm@buffalostate. edu. • Proposals received after 4: 00 p. m. WILL NOT BE REVIEWED under any circumstances. • The submitted proposal should include scanned copies of the signed cover page, letters of support, and all required application components. In the event that you cannot create scanned copies, we will accept an emailed copy of the proposal accompanied by hard copies of signed documents. BOTH email and hard copies must be received by 4: 00 p. m. on the deadline date.
Proposal Format • All text in the application form, narrative, vitae, and bibliography must be the standard 11 -12 pt. font. • The Project Narrative section of the application must not exceed 5 double -spaced pages. • The completed Application Cover Page, Prospective External Funders Form, Budget Request, Vitae (limited two pages), Bibliography (if applicable) and Export Controls Survey are not included in this page limit. • Proposals should be written so that individuals who are not experts in the proposed area will be able to understand evaluate the proposal.
Proposal Review and Selection • All applications are confidential and will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the Research and Creativity Council. • Each proposal will be evaluated using a 100 -point scale aligned with the proposal narrative. • Reviews and recommendations will be forwarded to the Research and Creativity Council chair, who will make final funding decisions.
Reporting Requirements • Awardees will be required to submit a final report, which is due within 60 days of project conclusion. The final report should include the following elements: • Description of progress towards/achievement of project goals/outcomes. • Explanation for any obstacles encountered and discussion of any goals/outcomes where progress or achievement has not been realized. • Description of how the project has supported the faculty member’s or team’s capacity to successfully compete for external funding. • Documentation of accomplishments and/or plans for and progress related to submitting research proposals to external funding agencies/programs. • Publications and presentations resulting from the project. • Financial report correlating project expenditures with proposed budget.
