Undescended Testes n n One or both testicles fail to descend into the scrotum before birth Surgery should be done if the testicles do not descend by age one to prevent permanent damage or infertility
Priapism n n A painful and prolonged erection (lasting longer than 4 hours) How? • Blood Clots, drug use/cocaine, prescription meds/viagra n Now what? • Go to doctor n Ice packs, surgical procedure to tie off artery, drain blood, injection to narrow veins
Erectile Dysfunction/Impotence n n Erectile dysfunction (ED) is when a man has trouble getting or keeping an erection. ED becomes more common as you get older. But male sexual dysfunction is not a natural part of aging. Could be a sign of heart issues
Impotence treatments n n Testosterone injections or patches Penile implants – pump placed in penis to create erection
Sterility Inability to produce enough sperm for offspring n Common causes for males: n • Abnormal sperm production • Impaired delivery of sperm • Low testosterone • Undescended testes
torsion n n Testes twist around the spermatic cord and blood flow to testes is blocked Treatment: surgery
Inguinal hernia n n Exam: mass increase in size when coughing or lifting Treatment: surgery
Penile Cancer n n Often in men who have not been circumcised caused by smegma (foul smelling cheesy substance) poor hygiene, multiple partners, STD’s, infections, use of tobacco A lump on penis, sore, redness, discharge
Prostate cancer n Symptoms: frequent urination, painful or bloody urine or ejaculation
Exam: n Doctor will give rectal exam to feel for bumps or hard spots on prostate
Prostate biopsy n Tissues are sampled by a needle through the rectum wall or skin between scrotum and rectum
Testicular cancer n n Lumps in the testicles Symptoms: • Pain or enlarged testicle • Feeling bumps or hard lumps (painless) n Treatment • • • Surgery Radiation Chemotherapy
