IR Webmeeting about 3. 9 um bias investigation and Refining Inter-Calibration algorithm The web meeting on Jan. 13, 2021 was to investigate shortwave bias at 3. 9µm channel when comparing IASI with geostationary imagers (especially for AMI and AHI). Basically, both the JMA and KMA teams independently found that there is a large bias at 3. 9µm channel when comparing AMI/AHI with IASI. This bias however cannot be identified from the inter-calibration of GOES 16 -IASI inter-calibration. Agenda (2021. 01. 13) 1. Likun Wang (UMD & NOAA Affiliate): Introduction (10 min) 2. Minju Gu (KMA): Status of AMI 3. 8 um anomaly analysis at cold scene using IASI (20 min) 3. Arata Okuyam (JMA): AHI/B 07 (3. 9 um) Tb bias for cold scene (20 min) 4. Tim Hewison (EUMETSAT): Issues with use of IASI to inter-calibrate 3. 9µm band (20 min) 5. Hui Xu (UMD): Investigations of IASI Negative value at SW channels: Inter-comparison with Cr. IS (10 min) 6. Fangfang Yu (UMD & NOAA Affiliate): G 16 ABI B 07 cold scene bias to IASI(10 min) 7. Likun Wang (UMD & NOAA Affiliate): wrap-up and acctions (5 min) 11 dohy Updates the efforts to improve inter-calibration algorithms. Agenda(2020. 06. 24) Chengli Qi (CMA) - HIRAS status update and IR recalibration for FY-3/IRAS and VIRR (15 min) Alessandro Burini (EUMETSAT) - Update on SLSTR-IASI Inter-calibration (15 min) Hyeji Yang (KMA) - Inter-comparison between GK 2 A and Himawari-8 (15 min) Likun Wang (NOAA Affliate) - Improving GEO-GEO Inter-calibration with Parallax Correction (15 min)
Third Joint GSICS/IVOS Lunar Calibration Workshop 2020 -11 -16/19 The Third Joint GSICS/IVOS Lunar Calibration Workshop was originally planned to be hosted by EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, in November 2020. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the physical meeting was replaced by a series of web meetings. Despite the constraints, between 70 and 80 participants from Asia, Europe and the United States participated to the discussions. A total of 22 presentations over 4 days addressed most of the topics initially targeted by the workshop: · Measurements and Moon observations: towards SI traceability· Lunar calibration reference and model development· Instrument monitoring using lunar calibration· Thermal Infrared and microwave remote sensing and lunar observations· Alternative applications of lunar observations, including geometric and MTF post-launch characterisation 12 dohy The 3 rd Joint GSICS/IVOS Lunar Calibration Workshop successfully brought together the members of the Lunar Calibration Community. It offered the possibility to share the latest progresses that the various agencies, organizations and institutes made in the field of lunar observations and measurements, lunar modelling, and instrument radiometric monitoring. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the organization of the next event was not discussed. However, there is a strong interest and motivation to continue with those community exchanges and http: //gsics. atmos. umd. edu/pub/Development/Lunar. Calibration. WS 2020 collaborations. The Community is expanding, with a clear interest in pursuing coordinated efforts also in areas
ISCCP-NG and GSICS interaction • • The International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) started (Reference: A. GEP. 2020. 1 f. 1) under WCRP but ended up as a GEWEX DAP Satellite Project. ISCCP-NG needsfrom GSICS calibration information that results in accurate performance with a requirement on inter-satellite consistencyin consistent format. ISCCP-NG wants to be a GSICS customeras theirusers are GSICS users. GSICS EP increased coordination and collaboration between GSICS and the ISCCP (A. GEP. 20200519. 6) In response to the action A. GWG. 2020. 1 f. 1: GSICS held a web meeting in June to establish a Task Force from GSICS and "ISCCP-NG" to identify requirements and set up pilot programs before a meeting at EUMETSAT in September. Agenda(2020. 08. 12) Chair: Tim Hewison 1. Quick overview of ISCCP-NG (Andy Heidinger) 2. How to define deliverables needed from GSICS (Tim Hewison) 3. ISCCP-NG Wish List for GSICS (Andy Heidinger) • What information to include in L 1 g to support the inclusion of the GSICS corrections as they exist today? • How to define milestones for deliverables 4. Thoughts on ISCCP[-NG] & GSICS (Ken Knapp) 5. Feedback from ISCCP on use of GSICS Products (Manik Bali) 6. How to interact with ISCCP-NG (and IOGEO) 7. Establishment of Task Team 13 dohy •

GSICS regular Webmeeting suggestion • To enhance our GSICS activities under the COVID-19 pendemic condition, The regular Webmeeting Planning suggestion from the discussion in the previous Preparatory Meeting on Feb 18, 2021. • Recommendation: Every subgroup chair to organize webmeeting each month or bimonthly in future. • Greg: In virtual meeting, we are stressing focused topics and have to give up things for meetings - adhoc and additional planned WG meetings at other times; we did the same thing for many other typical f 2 f meetings, make sure that the sessions are focused and not overwhelming during plenary week. Especially where some of the topics are better handled as there own events by subgroup. Web meetings can cover some stuff if held on a rgular monthly or bimonthly time window - you can set them up and if you have a 2 -3 hour time topics use it or only do 1 hour or 2 hours.
Re-cal/re-processing Workshop Planning Status • Due to the COVID-19, previously planned Re-calibration/re-processing workshop in late 2020 will be postponed into late 2021. • Scott Hu will coodinate the several international communities such as ISCCP-NG, FIDUCEO, SCOPE-CM, CM SAF, CCI to initiate the workshop organization recently. • Suggest that the first Worshop will be hosted by CMA at Shenzhen, China A. GRWG. 2019. 10 b. 3: Scott Hu (CMA) to incorporate the comments and suggestions from the annual meeting in the report of the potential re-calibration/re-processing workshop to the EP.
Forthcoming meeting and Workshops 1. We have not seen each other for too long time and it is possible to hold a Special Face to Face meeting late of this year in KMA if the COVID 19 pendemic is under control? 2. Which agency will host the Next GSICS annual meeting in March, 2022? by ROSHYDRO or ? ? 3. CEOS/GSICS optical space sensor pre-flight calibration and characterization workshop is postponed to 2022? 4. Potential Workshop about Recalibration/Re-processing for FCDR/TCDR is being planned to be held in China, 2021 or 2022? depend on COVID 19 situation. dohy 20
