Statement of the Problem A bridge in Penn. DOT Engineering District 2 -0 was destroyed due to a recent extreme flood. This bridge is vital to local traffic and must be replaced as soon as possible.
Project Objective Penn. DOT Engineering District 2 -0 has commissioned a fast-track design project to replace the bridge
Required Design Criteria There must be two designs, one Warren Truss bridge and one Howe Truss bridge. Each bridge must include standard abutments, no piers, deck material will be medium strength concrete, no cable anchorages, and must be able to hold the load of two AASHTO H 2 O-44 trucks. The elevation of each bridge is set to 20 meters, and the deck span is set to 40 meters.
The Technical Approach Phase 1: economic efficiency
The Technical Approach: Phase 2: Structural Efficiency Warren Bridge weighed Howe Bridge weighed 80. 6 63. 9
The results phase 1: economic efficiency HOWE Warren
The results phase 2: structural efficiency Load/weight of bridge
Best solution Our professional recommendation is the Howe bridge. The cost of our two bridges are about the same, but the structural efficiency of the Howe bridge was higher
Our recommendations ● Additional testing on local terrain ● Final design using data from all design teams ○ This includes building, testing, and structural analysis.
