Renaissance • Renaissance means rebirth i. e. intellectual rebirth. • Rebirth of science and technology; economic development; human courage against church. • Revolution in different walks of life. • It took place in Italy. • Advocated an un interrupted quest for scientific enquiry, temperament , attitude based on reason, logic and observation.

Causes for Renaissance 1. Scientific investigation and enquiry • In medieval times people did not investigate. • Whatever church says people accept whether truth or not. • But for the first time authority of the church was questioned. • Now they had no blind faith. • it was beginning of the original era.

2. Crusades • With crusades people left homes. • It brought them close to advancing culture. • It prove to be eye openers for Europeans an started about ancient glory.

3. Decline of Feudalism • Feudalism acted as a great obstacle in human development. • People were ignorant about changes happened. • With decline of feudalism people began to feel a free atmosphere.

4. Geographical discoveries • New lands were found. e. g. Africa, America , India- new areas exposed. • They think in different perspectives and think on modern lines. • They came in contact with other people of the world.

5. Scientific Development • Kepler , Copernicus and Galileo revolutionized world. • Telescope by Galileo, Copernicus idea of earth revolves round the sun.

6. Invention of press in Medieval ages • Knowledge spread from area to area in short span of time. • It enlarged human mind.

7. Fall of Constantinople • Marked the centre of European capital. • There lived a number of scientists and philosophers. • After fall of Constantinople they fled away to Rome. • Spread knowledge and modern ideas in Rome. • Became forerunners of Constantinople.

8. Focus on Humanism • In Medieval ages focus of man was on religion. • Church fostering traditional thinking. • Now focus shifted to Man. • Problems of Man were focused.
