Renaissance period Renaissance means “rebirth” a secular rebirth for men delighted with life. This was the time when man discovered that the world is round. It began in Italy and gradually spread over the western European World. In the field of: Art - Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael. Science - Galileo and Copernicus Music – Palestrina, Thomas Morley, Mac haut and Dufay.
Saint George and the Dragon, one of two versions of theme by the artist, belonged to a series of miniature panels which Raphael painted in Florence for the celebrated court of Urbino. A Roman soldier of Christian faith, Saint George saved the daughter of a pagan king by subduing a dragon with his lance; the princess then led the dragon to the city, where the saint killed it with his sword, prompting the king and his subjects to convert to Christianity.

Music of Renaissance period Renaissance music is polyphonic and often involves a great deal of imitation. The important forms are motet and the madrigal Motet is a short polyphonic composition with sacred words and meant to be performed on religious or festive occasions. Madrigal is a polyphonic music for four or five voices with secular text in the vernacular language. Lute is the popular instrument during this period.
