REN Global Peering Pre-requisites
Pre-requisites – To make the initiative sustainable there are some generic guidelines / strategies that must be accepted and adhered to by all participating partners. • All major Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) and other large content providers must be peered in region/locally and cannot be bridged across continents or RE peering partners networks. • As Internet 2 are (and the GEANT peering service plan to); use separate AS numbers for their Research and Commercial Peering Services networks, it is recommended that all RE peering partners must maintain 2 VRF’s (Routing tables) one for commercial peers and one for Research traffic. • It is recommended that cloud infrastructure providers providing services to the community and that are approved under the Global Service Delivery (GSD) program or ie. Net+, will be carried in the research VRF and that there should be BGP communities used to allow NREN’s/customers to opt in or out.
