Removing Animals from a Cage

Read cage card and observe dogs body language

Leash – lead Put handle through ring, hand in handle, slip over dogs head

Using door of cage/run as a barrier allow dogs head to enter leash, push door in when entering and out when exiting

If there are other animals in the cage do not let them escape while you are exiting with your animal

Walk the dog and the dog will follow you. Do not let the dog walk you!

Safety • Never let 2 dogs next to each other • Do NOT wrap leash around your wrist • Close all cage doors after you remove your dog

Return animal to Run/cage • Walk animal into run • Turn animal around • Keep leash on as you step out of the run and close • Remove leash with hands as far from the muzzle as possible • Close door completely and double check

Removing a cat from a cage 1. Check cage card and note temperament of animal before opening cages 2. Observe animals body language

For a calm cat • Hold cat in your arms, keep one hand loosely on scruff

For a nervous cat: • Scruff cat and tuck its head under your arm, your arm should be supporting bottom of cat and holding the cats 2 back legs together.

Safety • Never bring a cat near or past a dog • Keep cats housed in separate area then dogs • Double check all cage doors after you remove your animal.
