Remote login access to e-resources is the best practice of any library. It gives opportunity for the best use of the eresources and offers easy access of various resources of the library through its interface from anywhere Providing remote access service facility is one of the objectives of any modern library and is the best way of marketing the library e -resources

Remote Login Access to Subscribed e-Resources Provide users with remote entryway to the licenced resources Users residing outside the campus can procure the desired information Makes the task of the user simpler Help the libraries in greater way if : The library has wide range of disciplines Library users who are away for attending workshop Engaging scientific communication and discourse

Kasturba medical college (KMC), established on June 30, 1953. Manipal was It is one of the finest medical colleges in the country, the first of its kind in India in the private sector. Remote Login Access to E-Resourses The KMC Health Sciences Library, Manipal University, Manipal made available subscribed e-resources to its users through intranet before the implementation of remote access facility. KMC Health Sciences library selected EZproxy remote software from among a number of remote access software available in the market viz. , CC Proxy, Squid Proxy, RHN proxy, due to the compatibility of the software with the existing computer and other infrastructure of the Library. EZproxy implemented at the KMC Health Sciences Library in the month of November, 2013

Ezproxy: Remote Login Access Software to e-Resources EZproxy is server based software Acts as an intermediary between Web browsers and the Internet Authenticating user against local authentication systems to provide licensed resources Allows creation of single set of web pages to gain access to licensed databases Authentication of on-site users is not required

Benefits of EZproxy New database access can be added Connects to a large number of content providers Provides to a wide variety of authenticati on services Additional investment on hardware is not required Gaining continuous and reliable access Minimal technical support Easy to setup and maintain

Need of the Study • It is very much essential to know the opinion, satisfaction level and problems of the users, who use remote access facility of the KMC Health Sciences Library. • Further it is essential to understand whether a user wants any modifications or shifts in the remote access facility or facing any problem while accessing library resources remotely

To understand perceptions of users on remote access facility To know the level of satisfaction of the users of remote access facility To identify the problems faced by users while accessing e-resources through remote access facility

Findings Majority of users were started using remote access facility for more than one year. Satisfaction Level: It is understood that 88. 5%of users are highly satisfied or satisfied with remote access facility provided at the KMC Health Sciences Library. Rating: It was found that majority of the users (59. 21%) are rating that remote access facility is highly useful. Using: The study reveals that 60. 53% of users are using remote access facility while they are staying away from the campus. 14. 47% of users are using remote access facility while visiting conference, seminar and workshop.

Findings Purpose of Using: Majority of users (59. 4%) are using remote access facility for their teaching purpose followed by making conference papers (55. 1%) and seminar purposes (53. 6%). Problems: 36. 84%of users (28)are facing problems while accessing e-resources through remote access facility. Study further observed that full text not downloading/opening, access authentication problem, facing network problem are major difficulties facing by the users while they are accessing eresources through remote access facility provided by the library. Uses of Resources: Majority of the users i. e. 71. 05% are using remote access facility for accessing e-journals and 56. 58% of the users are using the same for accessing online databases.

Conclusion • The remote login access to e-resources is the best practice of libraries because it offers opportunity for the best use of the electronic information resources and provides easy access to multiple resources subscribed by the library through its interface from anywhere. • It is, however, commendable that KMC Health Sciences Library users are enjoying the remote access facility provided by the library • Most of the users felt that it is an excellent facility and helpful for the user community

• Remote access has changed the way library resources are delivered Conclusion • It facilitates large libraries in achieving maximum usage of the resources available • By implementing remote login access to e-resources, library is keeping pace with the changing technology, thereby providing the users the convenient and efficient interfact to access e-resources avilable in the library remotely
