Aims • This key aim of this session is to support teachers delivering the Victorian Curriculum F-10 via remote and flexible learning models. • There is a range of ways in which schools can make alternative arrangements to assist students with their learning and engage in assessment activities, depending on the requirements of the school and the context in which they are operating. • Today’s session will offer high-level, curriculum area advice for teachers regarding how to use the Design and Technologies curriculum in a remote learning context.
Delivering F– 10 Design and Technologies • Four contexts to deliver the curriculum Engineering principles and systems Food and fibre production Food specialisations Materials and technologies specialisations
Delivering F– 10 Design and Technologies • Learning through creating: investigating; generating; planning and managing; producing; evaluating • Design thinking underpins learning • Sustainability
Delivering F– 10 Design and Technologies • Can integrate Technologies Contexts to deliver curriculum • Not all practical activities need to be productionbased activities • Consider ‒ safety and accessibility issues regarding tools, machines and materials ‒ alternatives such as simulations, modelling, prototyping, or analysis of data, case studies or products/systems/environments.
Delivering F– 10 Design and Technologies • Depending on the Achievement Standard and resources available at home, students may ‒ ‒ ‒ ‒ draw graph photograph annotate label create a podcast using audio and/or video create a prototype or electronic system write a response to communicate their findings.
Delivering F– 10 Design and Technologies • Select and use a variety of assessment types to provide timely feedback to students and to monitor learning progress. • On the resumption of face-to-face learning, schools will need to undertake a variety of assessments to determine students’ progression of learning with the intended teaching and learning program.
