Relining and Rebasing Relining : is a process of resurfacing the tissue side of the denture with a new denture base material to make it fit more accurately without changing the occlusal relations of the teeth. Rebasing: is a process of replacing the whole denture base without changing the occlusal relations of the.
Indications of relining and rebasing: *Patient with immediate denture *Diabetic patient *Geriatric and very poorly health patients *Socioeconomic status and economic consideration Contraindications *Severely resorbed ridge *Flabby tissue covering the residual ridge *Esthetically not acceptable dentures *Speech problems
Techniques: 1. Closed and open mouth static impression technique Clinical Procedures: 1. Reduction of the borders and inner side of the denture base about (1 -2 mm) 2. In case of reduced V. D. O, stoppers should be placed. 3. Border molding of the denture borders by tracing compound. 4. Light body silicon or Zinc oxide eugenol impression material is placed on the tissue side and inserted in patient mouth.
2. function impression technique It is simple and practical method used in ill-fitted denture. Clinical procedure: 1. Prepare the dentures, as in the first three points of the static impression technique. 2. Tissue conditioner liner is mixed and placed on the tissue side. 3. Ask the patient to close in maximum intercuspation until setting. 4. The material that is used in this technique is tissue conditioner which will pass in 3 different stages (plastic, elastic and hard or firm stage)
plastic stage: it will response to functional and parafunctional stresses. Elastic stage: it acts as a cushion for the stress and tissue recovery takes place. Hard stage: It is become similar to a polymerized resin.
3. Chair side impression technique disadvantages: 1. It produce a chemical burn 2. It is porous l 3. Poor color stability 4. Difficult to remove from the denture to repeat the procedure Visible light-cured (VLC) resin advantages 1. Well fit to underlying tissues 2. Good strength 3. Patient acceptance 4. Ability to bond with other denture base resins 5. Low bacterial adherence
