What is relief sculpture? Any three dimensional element attached to a basically flat wall mounted work or flat surface is said to be a relief or have a relief element Relief sculptures are traditionally classified according to how high the figures project from the background

Depth Definition- the distance from the top or surface to the bottom of something. "shallow water of no more than 12 feet in depth" Depth in Reliefs- Relief carvings are categorized according to their depth. A low relief, sometimes also called bas relief, has figures that project only slightly from the surface. On the other hand, a high relief has figures that stand out prominently from the surface with a greater sense of depth.

Your Project Create a mixed media relief sculpture based on a memory of yours. Your relief needs to be created using several different materials. Your sculpture should have multiple layers (at least 3) to create depth. Remember to have clean and neat work that shows craftsmanship. Minimum size: 8 x 10 inches Materials: Mixed Media - Cardboard, construction paper, magazines, glue, etc.
