Terms used in the use cases • Assigned device – a device can be assigned to an individual, to a practice/hospital/specific ward in the inpatient facility/etc. , or to another device. • Device use by someone – a device can be used by a legal clinical user, a practitioner using a device on a patient, a patient using a device at home, a family member using a device on a patient at home , … • Device use on someone – a device is usually used on a patient, e. g. to measure something, make an image, … • Unassigned device – a device that is not or no longer assigned 2

Use case 1 Be able to track (get a history of) which device (of a specific type) was assigned to whom/what and at which period/point in time Examples: 1. A weight scale is assigned to a practice to be used by the practitioners on patients 2. Track assignment of Po. C devices (infusion pumps, ventilators, telemetry patient monitors) to a specific ward in the inpatient facility (e. g. in the ICU or NICU or SICU or CCU) 3. A wheelchair, scale or blood pressure device assigned to a patient for home use 4. A patient is assigned to a bedside location 5. A transport monitor that is plugged into a bedside patient monitor 3

Use case 2 Be able to track (get a history of) which device (of a specific type) was used by whom and at which period/point in time Examples: 1. A weight scale that is assigned to a practice, is used by a practitioner to measure the weight of a patient 2. CPAP or monitoring patches used in unsupervised/home scenarios 3. MRI used by a nurse in a certain period. This might be useful for audit trails, e. g. if something goes wrong with the machine to have the information who was operating the machine at the time 4. For the treatment of certain conditions, like sepsis, it is necessary to use specific monitoring or treatment devices, such as a Pulse. Ox monitor and a ventilator. 4

Use case 3 Be able to track (get a history of) which device (of a specific type) was used on whom and at which period/point in time Examples: 1. A weight scale that is assigned to a practice, is used by a practitioner to measure the weight of a patient 2. Track use of Po. C devices (monitors, infusion pumps, vents) on a specific patient in a specific ward – when actually connected to the patient 3. Track what measurements/treatments are done on whom by a broken or contaminated device. 4. The information of which device type was used on a patient can trigger activation of the next tasks in a clinical workflow. 5

Use case 4 Be able to represent a device that is unassigned, for example

Use case 4 Be able to represent a device that is unassigned, for example a device placed in a storage Examples of devices: wheelchair, patient monitor, thermometer, hospital ventilator Use case 5 Be able to represent the operational state of a device, for example that it is operational, is fully charged, is returned and broken, or needs cleaning/repairing/maintenance/software updating. This applies for assigned and unassigned devices. Examples of devices: wheelchair, patient monitor, thermometer, hospital ventilator 6

Use case 6 Be able to check if there is a device of certain

Use case 6 Be able to check if there is a device of certain type available for assignment. Examples of devices: wheelchair, patient monitor, thermometer, hospital ventilator Use case 7 Be able to indicate that a device is stored (for example on a shelf), allocated, implanted/explanted, active/inactive, discarded or removed. Examples of devices: leads and pacemakers 7

Use case 8 Be able to track which devices are implanted in a specific

Use case 8 Be able to track which devices are implanted in a specific patient currently, or at certain period/point in time. Use case 9 Be able to track (get a history of) the location of a device. Know when the device was at certain location. 8
