Aims: Share latest thinking. Gain parents’ views on how our relationship policy would look.
Task 1: In your group consider what you know about: Nurture Restorative Practice Bullying Rewards and sanctions
The Principles of Nurture There are 6 Principles : 1. Learning is understood developmentally. 2. The environment offers a safe base. 3. Nurture is important for wellbeing. 4. Language is a vital means of communication. 5. All behaviour is communication. 6. Transitions are important in children’s lives.
The Principles of Restorative Approaches • “Restorative Practice is an approach to offending and inappropriate behaviour which puts repairing harm done to relationships and people over and above the need for assigning blame and dispensing punishment. ”
The Principals of Restorative Approaches • Restorative Approaches is to build community and to manage conflict by building and maintaining relationships and repairing the harm of wrong doing. • It’s a Fair Process • Individuals are most likely to trust and cooperate freely with systems – whether they themselves win or lose by those systems – when fair process is observed.
Bullying. . . Is Never acceptable What do we mean by Bullying? • Bullying is both behaviour and impact • Bullying is a breakdown in a relationship. • Bullying is a behaviour that impacts on a person’s capacity to be in control of themselves. Behaviour can be changed. • Bullying can happen face to face and on-line.
The internet is a place, not a thing. Would you let your child go here on their own?
Why does how we think of bullying need changed? • Anti-bullying – A National Approach (2014) Respect for All Document is on hold due to named person. • LA Policy with core messages and definition • Prejudice –based bullying is a criminal offence at 12 years old. Eg ASN, body appearance, LAAC children, asylum seekers/refugees, travellers, gender identity, sexism and homophobic. . .
