Relationships of Earth’s Systems and How Humans Interfere With Them By: Victor Bellera
Relationships of Earth’s Systems An event in any sphere most likely has an influence in the other spheres This creates a relationship between the different spheres There are many relationships but the ones mentioned are the ones that humans most affect An example would be the relationship of the atmosphere and the hydrosphere
First Important Relationship between the Cryosphere and the Hydrosphere Cryosphere to Hydrosphere: The melting of ice Rise in sea level Hydrosphere to Cryosphere: The freezing of water
Human interference Humans have an indirect interference with the melting of the ice by global warming Human activity such as burning fossil fuels leads to higher temperature due to more gases in the atmosphere capable of keeping the sun’s heat longer inside the earth’s atmosphere This will lead to a higher than normal melting of the ice sheets in the Cryosphere interfering with the relationship of Cryosphere and Hydrosphere
Consequences Rise in sea level This will then contaminate our fresh water Biosphere threatened due to animal population depending on low sea level areas https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=Fqmt. Lmmu. Qhw
Second Important Relationship The relationship between the biosphere and the atmosphere Vegetation in the biosphere is able to reduce carbon in the atmosphere by taking it in and in return outputting oxygen into the atmosphere This occurs through the process of photosynthesis
Human Interference Human activity interferes in this relationship by concepts like deforestation and air pollution Deforestation is the process of cutting down trees to have land for a specific purpose Air pollution also includes the burning of fossil fuels https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=M 4 jhjt 1_ey. M
Consequences Biosphere: many species die because of this activity Hydrosphere; Trees are important in the water cycle since they absorb rain and then make water vapor Geosphere: Trees also help soil stay in place with its roots without it the soil can be blown away which causes vegetation growth problems
Third Important Relationship Biosphere and the Geosphere Biosphere gives minerals to the geosphere such as carbon through organic matter Geosphere provides soil for the vegetation in the biosphere to live
Human Interference Human activity such as soil pollution interferes this relationship Soil pollutions can be identified as pesticides and herbicides https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=Ccd. XCVbe. D 4 U
Consequences Ruining of agriculture Biosphere is deeply affected in area where soil is polluted since vegetation isn’t able to live on it anymore
Fourth Important Relationship The relationship between the Biosphere and the Hydrosphere gives home to marine population biosphere Biosphere uses hydrosphere and water to obtain oxygen
Discussion After seeing previous human activities that interfere with relationships between the earth’s systems, predict what can human activity can interfere with this relationship.
Human Interference Water pollution Wastes in water This comes from mostly industrial waste thrown to the sea Littering in the beaches
Consequences Death of marine population Interference of biosphere
Quiz 1. What is the relationship of the Hydrosphere and the biosphere? 2. How does littering the beaches and the ocean interfere with this relationship? 3. What are the consequences of deforestation? 4. What are the consequences of melting the ice sheets?
