Reinventing the veil The article “Reinventing the veil” written by Leila Ahmed. It’s about the return of the veil, most of the Muslim people wear the veil to go to the mosque, but most of the American Muslim don’t because they think it’s a symbol of Islamism rather than Islam. 2

It was also woman commitment because it increased the ability to move freely in public and they wore it as a way of raising consciousness about the sexist message of society. The reinvention of the veil started at 1940 -1960, the first place that was reinvented was in Egypt. 3

Should Buddhism have effect the legal decision whether or not abortion is legal? 4

Do you know why abortion is illegal in Thailand? Because in Thailand people believe in Buddhism, and Buddhism teaches Thai people not to kill living thing’s, however, some people do. Some reason’s why they do abortion is because some women got raped, some can’t afford to raise the child, and karma. Because of these three reasons we 5

The first issue is the viewpoint of abortion to raped victims in Buddhist. Abortion is equal to killing which is forbidden in the religion. Although there are cases dealing with pregnant raped victims, Buddhist does not concern with it directly. Buddhism believes in rebirth and teaches that individual human life begins at conception. When a baby is formed, a living being is created and that satisfies the first condition. 6

Although Buddhists believe that being live in a cycle of birth death and rebirth, they regard the moment of conception as the beginning of the life of an individual. So if she decides that she wants abortion that provides an intention to kill. 7

Secondly, another reason is unaffordable in raising children. Because some of the people in Thailand don’t have that much money to raise a child. In Buddhism they always teach that “if you are not ready to have a child , then don’t. ” or use protection to avoid pregnancy. 8

Finally, the last issue is karma, it refers to actions driven by intention. Karma is the force produced by a person’s action in one life which influence what happens to that people future life. So it is very important in Buddhism and in doing abortion. 9

�� In conclusion, there are some reasons that are unavoidable, such as rape, not enough money to support the family and strong believe of Karma. If abortion is legal in Thailand, many people will not suffer because of such unfortunate events that create pregnancy problems. Even though, Thai people believe in Buddhism, abortion decision should not affect individual's decision based on the religion. 10
